OCD Therapy in Torrance

Evidence-based OCD therapy using ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention).

If you live in Torrance or the South Bay and are looking for OCD therapy, we offer in-person and online appointments across California. We use evidence-based approaches tailored to each individual, helping you gradually face fears while building the skills to resist compulsions. Over time, anxiety peaks, falls, and your brain updates. Fewer compulsions, more life.

I respond to every message personally, and we’ll figure out together if I’m the right fit for you.

Does this sound like you?

  • You get hit with disturbing “what if” thoughts that feel totally against your values… and they stick.

  • You replay conversations, memories, or decisions, trying to feel 100% sure you didn’t mess up or hurt someone.

  • You check things (locks, stove, emails, your body) more than you’d like to admit, even when you know you already checked.

  • You’re a pro at arguing with your own thoughts in your head or running through mental “proof” to convince yourself you’re not a bad person.

  • You ask for reassurance (“Are you mad at me?” “Do you think I would ever do that?”) and get relief… but it never lasts.

  • You’ve become a pro at avoiding certain places, people, or situations because you’re afraid they’ll trigger intrusive thoughts or anxiety.

  • You’re exhausted by how much time and energy OCD steals from your day and wonder if life has to feel like this forever.

If a few of these hit hard, you’re not broken, and you’re not alone. These are common patterns of OCD, and they’re treatable.

What Is OCD?

And What It Isn’t.

OCD isn’t about being “a little picky” or liking things neat. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is a cycle:

  • An intrusive, unwanted thought, image, or urge pops in

  • Your anxiety spikes and you feel urgent pressure to “fix” it

  • You do something  – a ritual, checking, replaying, praying, Googling, asking for reassurance — to feel safer

  • Your anxiety drops for a moment… and then the doubt comes back even stronger

Over time, your brain learns: “I can’t handle this thought unless I do the ritual.” That’s how OCD slowly starts running your day.

OCD can latch onto almost anything: contamination, harm coming to others, morality, relationships, sexuality, religion, health, perfectionism, pulling hair and more. The specific theme matters less than how it works in your brain: intrusive doubt + compulsions to chase certainty.

What OCD is not.

  • A lot of people talk about OCD in ways that are flat-out wrong. To be clear:

    • OCD is not just being organized, clean, or liking things a certain way

    • OCD is not a personality quirk or a “high standards” problem

    • OCD is not you secretly wanting the thoughts to be true

    • OCD is not dangerous or “going crazy” — people with OCD are usually horrified by their thoughts

    • OCD is not something you can fix by “just ignoring it” or “thinking positive”

If you’re constantly asking yourself, “Do I really have OCD or am I making this up?” — that second-guessing is actually one of the most common OCD patterns I see. You don’t have to keep arguing with your brain alone; this is exactly the kind of cycle OCD therapy is built to untangle.

How does OCD therapy help?

OCD therapy is about breaking the loop, not just talking about how stressed you are.

Right now OCD probably works like: scary thought → anxiety spike → ritual (checking, replaying, asking, avoiding) → short-term relief → even more doubt later. In therapy we slowly teach your brain, “I can have this thought and this feeling without doing the compulsion.”

In our work together, you can expect to:

  • Understand what OCD is actually doing in your brain and body

  • Learn skills to ride out anxiety instead of immediately calming it with rituals

  • Practice new responses so intrusive thoughts lose their power over time

  • Start getting back time, energy, and attention for the stuff you actually care about

Frequently Asked Questions About OCD

No. A lot of people come in saying, “I think this might be OCD.” Part of our early work is sorting out what’s actually going on and whether OCD is the right name for it.

Some people do well with ERP-based therapy alone; others benefit from adding meds. I don’t prescribe, but I can talk through options with you and coordinate with your prescriber if you choose that route.

It depends on how intense your symptoms are and how often we meet. Some people notice shifts in a few months; others need longer-term work to unwind years of rituals. We’ll check in on progress and adjust as we go.
